The March Writing Centers Bundle offers 6 sets of spring writing activities for 1st grade students to practice vocabulary and independent writing. Designed to meet 1st grade writing standards and align with the Science of Reading, this resource includes tasks for narrative, informative, and descriptive writing. Activities are differentiated so students can write at their own level, from individual words to complete sentences and short paragraphs.
Students work on the same first grade writing activities, but with different expectations based on their skill level. Some students may write words independently, some might write sentences, and some may be ready for short paragraphs.
Each activity in the March Writing Centers Bundle is designed to help students independently practice their current writing skills. This ensures each student can complete their writing center tasks successfully.
Yes! The 1st grade writing activities are designed to be flexible. Use them for writer’s workshop, independent writing centers, or free writing time.
W.1.2 – Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.
W.1.3 – Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.
W.1.6 – With guidance and support, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
W.1.8 – With guidance and support, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
This writing center supports Science of Reading-aligned vocabulary instruction through multiple exposures to new vocabulary words. Word cards, posters, mini-books, and writing activities help students build connections between oral language and written expression, reinforcing decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
Save 30% off these 1st grade writing activities along with 15 other spring writing centers. The Spring Writing Centers Bundle includes spring writing ideas for Earth Day, Plants, The Butterfly Life Cycle, and more.
