December is one of my FAVORITE months in my classroom! I love the excitement in my student’s faces, I love the fun Christmas activities for the classroom, and I’ll be honest, I love the countdown to Christmas vacation! I love Christmas read aloud stories too. When I get to do a gingerbread man books read aloud, I am one happy teacher.
Focusing on gingerbread man reading activities means your students who do not celebrate holidays can also participate. (Always check with their parents first, just in case.)
The Gingerbread Man by Karen Schmidt was one of the first Christmas books I added to my classroom library. It’s still one of my favorites to begin my gingerbread classroom activities. It’s simple, it’s the traditional story, and it’s easy for your students to follow along because of its predictive text.
The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst is a really fun story with a little surprise at the end for the fox! Your students will love seeing the story of the Gingerbread Man adapted with this spunky gingerbread girl in The Gingerbread Girl children’s book.
The Gingerbread Man Loose In The School by Laura Murray was a recent purchase for my gingerbread man reading activities. This is a fun book your students will love because instead of running away in the countryside, the gingerbread man runs away in a school with all the teachers giving chase!
The Gingerbread Man Loose At Christmas by Laura Murray is the next book in her series. I recommend this book because it focuses on the gingerbread man as a character doing something good, instead of causing mischief.
And finally, you have The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone. Again, this is one of those classic gingerbread man books read aloud that you’ll want to add to your classroom library nook.
